Though I have a long history with a different breed, it felt like starting anew with Vizslas.

We want our relationship with our puppy families to be the sort where you feel you are able to talk about whatever issues that you are having; we are genuinely here for our owners whenever they need it.

I have always been surrounded by pedigree dogs. I grew up on acreage property directly across the road from the hub of purebred dogs in Queensland. Back then, it was known as the Canine Control Council of Queensland however a name change brings it to what we all now know – Dogs Queensland.

My family bred Dobermanns and I was blessed to be brought up surrounded by them. I have fond memories of Dobermann puppies creating havoc through the kitchen and lounge areas of our traditional Queenslander style home. I had my own favourite in Jazz, who was my constant company throughout my secondary school years when I was homeschooled due to international level sports. Jazz and I used to lay on the grass for hours while I did my work, then run wild through the surrounding wetlands. It was such an idyllic life, and the time spent with my parents Dobermann breeding program set me up for success in my next adventure with Vizslas.

I’ve always had a love for dogs, starting with the Afghan Hounds I grew up with in the inner suburbs of Brisbane. At 16, I stepped into the world of showing dogs, beginning with my mother's Afghans, and over time, Rottweilers, and eventually Pointers. Pointers, or English Pointers as they’re sometimes called, quickly became my breed of choice. For over 35 years, they were a huge part of my life, and I was fortunate to raise and show five incredible dogs to their Supreme Champion titles, including two under my own prefix of Calberick.

As life evolved, so did my journey with dogs. When Kirstie and I became a couple, our home gradually transitioned from one filled with Pointers to one bustling with Hungarian Vizslas. Vizslas had always been a breed I admired, and now, their boundless energy and playful nature have become part of our everyday life. Vizslas are far more energetic than my previous Pointers.

For both Kirstie and I, pedigree dogs and the excitement of showing are passions we deeply share. Our weekends are never quiet and our home is always busy, but that’s just the way we like it.
